Partner network

A partner network is the connected set of businesses that participate in a loyalty programme by earning, funding, accepting or distributing its currency and benefits.

A partner network extends a loyalty programme beyond its operator. Each participating business has a defined role in earning, burning, funding, distributing or accepting the programme's currency and benefits.

An earn partner gives members a qualifying way to collect value. A burn partner gives them a place to use it. Those roles can belong to the same business, but they create different settlement, product and member-service requirements when they do not.

Partner billing records the commercial exchange behind the activity. The programme needs to know what was issued, what was redeemed, which party is charged and when the invoice or settlement is due. Points sale to partner is one common funding path, but the sale does not remove the programme's responsibility to track the member obligation.

Revenue share governs a different exchange. It allocates revenue between parties based on an agreed commercial rule, whereas partner billing records the amounts owed for the underlying activity. Treating the two as the same line makes partner economics difficult to reconcile.

The active member rate gives the network a behavioural measure. A large list of connected partners says little about value if members do not earn or burn through them. The network should be evaluated by the activity it enables and by the settlement discipline that keeps partners willing to participate.

Data minimization limits the information exchanged across the network. Partners need the data required for the agreed service and settlement, not every field held by the programme. A clear role, billing rule and data boundary make the network operable as it grows.

If 4 earn partners each fund 2,000 points in a month, the network issues 8,000 funded points. If 3 burn partners accept 1,500 points in total, 6,500 points remain outstanding for the period, linking partner activity to the balance that still needs to be settled.
